Van Berg Horses Capture First Two Detroit Races Otter Brook Follows Up Score Of Flying Raid by Taking Second DETROIT, Mich.. June 25.— Marion H. VanBerg, Nebraska turfman, and jockey Lois Cook, figured in Daily Double victories here today before a crowd of over 8,000* spectators turning out in sweltering temperatures. Cook hustled VanBergs Flying Raid home first in the six-furlong opener and came back in the next race at a like distance to score aboard Otter Brook, who was chalking up his second straight success at the local course. The Daily Double pay-off on the VanBerg duo, a pair of "eights" on the program was 5.00. Plying Raid was all out to take a nose verdict in the initial offering from Al Well-mans Copperstone, who raced right with the VanBerg mare to the wire. Although the latter could not overtake the top one, she was better than two lengths on E. B. McAtees Kibby F. for the place while E. H. Moodys The Blue Miss wound up fourth in the field of a dozen starters. Flying Raid returned 3.40 straight after completing her trip in 1:12%. Otter Brook went to the front soon after the start of the second race and, after establishing a two-length lead at the stretch turn, responded readily to Cooks urging during the drive and beat Ypsilanti Stables Bona Eternal by a length and one-half. Some four lengths away, Adelard Lamour-eux Lady Locks held on determinedly to save third money by a neck before Mrs. A. O. Cleffs Djymy.
