Thirteen of Diamonds Wins Irish Derby at The Curragh THE CURRAGH, County Kildare, Ireland, June 25 Reuters. — A. K. Hawkins, owner of the big Hamwood Stud in Ireland, won the Irish Derby over a mile and four furlongs here today with the colt, Thirteen of Diamonds. The son of Mustang — Florrie, ridden by J. Mullane, romped home eighth lengths ahead of D. P. Tyn-dalls Prince of Fairfield to score at odds of 10 to 1. Six lengths farther back in the field of 10 was Mrs. John Thusdbys DCM, joint favorite at 5 to 2. Prince of Fairfield started at 6 to 1. The winner is trained by P. J. Prendergast, who also saddled the joint favorite, Blue Chariot, ridden by the English rider, Charlie Smirke. All colts carried 126 pounds. Hawkins, leading Irish owner, won the Royal Ascot race last week with Southborne.
