Breeders Hear Report On Research by EVAR Dr. Doll States 24 Farms Hit by Equine Virus Abortion This Spring LEXINGTON, Ky., June 25.— A joint dinner meeting of the Thoroughbred Club of America and the Farm Managers Club to hear of the progress being made by the Equine Virus Abortion Research, Inc., found about 100 members present. The group was addressed by Dr. E. R. Doll of the Univer- sity of Kentucky and Dr. Charles Hagyard who heads EVAR. Dr. Doll gave a statistical outline of the work being done but stated that while much valuable knowledge has been acquired, the means to eliminate or control the dread disease has not yet been found. Dr. Doll said that during the past breed- J ing season 24 Blue Grass farms were af- 1 fected and one lost nine foals, one lost six, i two lost four and the others had single cases. It was significant, he said, that most i abortions appeared in the ninth and tenth £ months of gestation and that none ap- s a peared prior to the fifth month. i Dr. Hagyard said that in addition to t securing a farm, EVAR had procured 31 i mares as gifts or purchases for experi- i ment.
