" 4 f Jamie K. Outclasses Six Leonard Richards Rivals Arcaro Snugs Victor Home Before Landlocked in Stake at Delaware By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June "20.— Spring Hill Farms Jamie K. completely outclassed his opposition this afternoon as he registered an easy three and one-half lengths triumph in the 16th running of Delaware Parks mile and one furlong Leonard Richards Stakes. James Cox Bradys Landlocked was second by one length over King Ranchs Gran Chaco. Jamie K. time of 1:48% was four-fifths of a second slower than Stop and Looks track record ramble in the previous race, but was one-fifth of a second faster than Camargos previous standard. The victorious three-year-old son of Crowfoot — Sea Elf. was bred by John D. Norris, who maintains the Spring Hill establishment and who is president of the International Boxing Club, and has become recognized as Native Dancers shadow by racing the sophomore champion to neck decisions in the Preakness and Belmont. He had no such rival today, however, and picked up a purse of 2,980 to bring his seasonal gleanings to 7,455. Ridden by Eddie Arcaro, who coasted home with a snug grip on his mount, Jamie K. returned only .40, just as the l-to-5 posting on the tote board said he would. A crowd of approximately 23,000 witnessed the sport in sweltering heat. Benefits From Pace Ideal conditions through the early stages made Jamie K.s task even easier than it figured to be. There was ample speed in the race, with Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Maabrook, Landlocked, Gran Chaco and Hal Price Headleys Regal Manner being in the first flight while time of :23 and :46% were being recorded. Jamie K., at this point, remained a trailer, but within easy striking distance. Allowed to ramble a bit leaving the half-mile grounds, Jamie K. entered contention with ridiculous ease and while negotiating the final turn, moved from seventh to sec- Continued on Page Fifty Jamie K. The latter, a Mahmoud colt from the champion producing mare, Ace Card, again demonstrated that he possesses the speed of his older half-brothers, One Count, Post Card and Yildiz, but apparently lacks the staying qualities of that trio. Gran Chaco forged to the front at the proper time, but the necessary class was evidently lacking, for he not only gave way to Jamie K., but he allowed Landlocked to move by him through the homelane and outfinished him for the place. Jamie K., in the meantime, just galloped to the fore and increased his lead with ground-devouring strides. Following the race, owner Norris and trainer John B. Partridge were in the winners circle to accept the handsome trophy from Mrs. Leonard Richards, Jr., daughter-in-law of the man in whose memory the race is run. Eddie Arcaro also took part in the presentation. As written earlier in the week, trainer Partridge reiterated that he feels that there is little to choose between his colt and Native Dancer, a feeling which is shared by Arcaro. Partridge also stated that Jamie K. will be shipped to New York tomorrow and will remain there for about 10 days, at which time he will be transferred to Chicago for the Arlington Classic and another match with Native Dancer. That the track was in the fastest condition of the meeting was assured early in the afternoon, "but Paul L. Kelleys Stop and Look emphasized the fact when he accounted for the mile and a furlong fifth race in 1:48, flat, to eclipse Camargos track record by a full second. Backed into .10 favoritism, the vastly improved Pavot gelding was ridden by Chris Rogers and had five and one-half lengths to spare over "William Ziegler, Jr.s Bit o Fate at the finish, while I. J. Collins Common Cause was another half length back. Stop and Look, who raced for ,500 less than two months ago to become eligible for the local Montchanin Handicap series, won both of the races in which he competed, then stepped far up in class to score his fifth successive victory today. He was hard held earjy and was still under restraint while assuming command along the back-stretch. He then drew clear with ridiculous ease to become the second winning favorite on the program. The other choice to make good was Mrs. Henry A. Parr, UXs Staffordshire, who was also flirting with a track record when timed in 1:04%, while taking honors in the five and one-half furlongs third event. The Endeavor TJ. colt returned .80 under Bill Passmore and was a half length to the good of Mrs. Esther duPont Weirs Cobblers Bench. Mrs. Royal Firman, Jr.s Bitter Pill was third. .Apprentice Bernie Hewitt, who won the second race with R. O. J. Streuber, Jr.s Seebit, became the leading rider of the meeting when he registered his fifteenth success atop W. W. Waters Four Chances in the fourth race.
