STARS SHINE, taken in hand when MY TRULY FAIR crossed over to the rail taking command on the first turn, was eased back and rated close to the top pair, then wrested command after trying to swerve in the* stretch and drew clear. MY TRULY FAIR crossed over to the rail racing to the front on the first turn, set an even pace and held on well when displaced EQUAL STRIFE, in hand while outdistanced early, rapidly made up ground after a half mile, but hung in the stretch run. PLUMED was outrun. BUCK N GEE quit. ABBEZAC could not untrack himself. TO CHALLENGE was forced back by MY TRULY FAIR on the first turn and quit. Scratched— 898842 Count Cavour, 116. FREE STRIDER raced within striking distance under snug restraint, easily disposed of the leaders when ready and widened his margin while winning as the rider pleased. ZENAS ZEPHYR saved ground and finished well to be easily best of the others. TUNESMITH was blocked on the stretch turn, then finished well when clear to gain his placing. RUXTON came from well back. FOUR NOTRUMP was not a factor and could not be ridden out the last eighth when the right stirrup was broken by BULL. BLUE MIRAGE and REPUDIATE vied for the early lead and quit BULL was taken up sharply when savaged by FOUR NOTRUMP in the last furlong. EVAS TOY was shuffled back early.
