"Work on these barns will begin soon, general manager Louis Pbndfield stated, so that they will be available for use in advance of the ThistleDown session, which opens on September 11. Each barn .will contain 42 stalls, with the six housing a total of 252 thoroughbreds , plus eight tack and feed rooms and sanitary facilities. They will be of concrete block construction and woodlined throughout, fireproofed and modern in all respects. They will be located at the north end of the ThistleDown property on the site of the barns that were destroyed by fire in 1952. Five new barns at ThistleDown were completed prior to the opening of the Cranwood Park meeting. The barns to be built this summer are of the same general design but are somewhat larger.
