RED FIDDLER raced along with the pace, disposed of LAURANNE after a half mile and opened a clear lead, then lasted under a prolonged drive and narrowly bested WATCH HERO. The latter was sluggish early, as usual, circled wide rallying on the stretch turn and finished with a rush. DUFFIN lost ground being hustled into contention on the first turn, could not displace the winner under intermittent urging after a half mile and hung. SEARSIE lacked a closing rally. LAUREL SPRINGS displayed superior speed from the beginning and opened a long lead, maintained a true course under steady pressure in the stretch and held JIMMINETTY safe. The latter was urged along in closest pursuit of the winner and was gaining despite drifting out in the final furlong. MISS SHADOW closed well from the head of. the stretch while having to .steer outside of JIMMINETTY in the last stages. VIRGINIAN saved ground to be a forward factor and rallied mildly. The latter outsprinted NOBLE TANG after three-sixteenths and opened a clear lead, but weakened in the final run. OLD SHEP raced slightly wide and finished well. The latter gradually improved position, attempted to lug in, but finished with a rush. RACER could not displace the winner under brisk handling and weakened after a half-mile. HIYA BABE was strongly urged racing around horses and finished well. LITTLE DONOTS came between horses with a belated bid. TOP VALUE could not keep up early. PRETTY KATIE was blocked at the far turn. TANGULIA, steadied along while being outrun, rushed forward next to the hedge after a half mile and was taken in hand running up behind the leaders, then found an opening for the stretch drive and outfinished DUKE 0 HAMPTON. The latter was blocked sharply at the far turn, again on the stretch turn, then came around thHeaders and finished gamely. YON was rated near the pace and had to be steadied lacking room on the final turn, dashed to the front entering the stretch and weakened suddenly. DRIVING wrested command nearing the half mile and gave way under pressure. EDS DANDY lost ground outside of horses on the final turn. SMART SCHOLAR ran up behind horses on the final turn and did not recover. TOY KNIGHTESS was done after six furlongs. Overweight— Tangulia, 1 pound. Toy Knightess claimed by Mrs. E. J. Hawthorn?. POPADARIS was taken in hand racing up between the leaders on the backstretch, slipped through on the inside to wrest command on the final turn and withstood a prolonged drive to narrowly best TRUXTON. The latter rushed to the leaders on the outside at the far turn appaared ready to take command in the upper stretch, but hung. SOAKIN WET improved position after a half mile and closed well near the end. MUZZLE saved ground and closed with belated courage. FUGITIVE was a sharp contender and weakened. DAYROUND was carried wide by BRASSFIELD on the final turn. WICKS STAR and AHNIGHITO were done after five furlongs. Overweight— Soakin Wet, 2 pounds. Attendance, 11,431; Total Mutuel Pool, 56,558.
