Switch Ascot Gold Cup Day To Enable Queen to Attend Special to Daily Racing Form LONDON, England, June 14 Reuters . — A switch in stakes dates in next months Royal Ascot meeting has been made to enable Queen Elizabeth to see the running of the Gold Cup. The two and three-quarter miles test of stamina and skill is the most valuable race of the meeting. t Normally the third day of the meeting is Gold Cup day, but Ascot authorities stated today their intention of switching the feature to Wednesday, July 13, the same afternoon the Royal Hunt Cup will be contested. The Royal Hunt is the principal handicap of the meeting. An Ascot spokesman said the reason for changing the Gold Cup date was that it conflicted with a garden party the Queen is giving at Buckingham Palace on Thursday, July 14, which will prevent her attending the races. Complete details of the rearranged Royal Ascot meeting will be made known this coming Thursday.
