Eight Sophomores Seek W. Pontiac Kiwanis Purse Flatrock Tries for Repeat Win In Mile Offering at Detroit DETROIT RACE COURSE, Livonia, Mich., June 14. — The West Pontiac Kiwanis Purse, at one mile for three-year-olds, is the principal* offering on a well-balanced program scheduled for Wednesday at this Motor City course. The eight furlongs test drew an overnight field of six middle distance performers to meet under claiming conditions. I L. A. Labueff, Jr.s Flatrock, recently! won a six furlongs event here on a sloppy track. Although his performance was all that could be expected from an ordinary plater, Flatrock appeared ready to draw clear from his 11 rivals at the wire. The Labueff representative had the sad dle services of young Johnny Sellers in his prior engagement and the lad will again be at the reins in the West Pontiac Kiwanis. Sellers, making his first appearance in Michigan, hails from Oklahoma. With the beginning of the Tuesday racing the lad from the "Sooner State" had ridden 20 successful mounts, just three less than the veteran, Lois Coo Sellers also had been second with 20 horses and third with 15 of his 102 charges. His presence in Flat-rocks saddle probably will make the Labueff gelding the favorite over his five rivals. In the band expected to oppose Flatrock will be Morgan and Johnstons Dan Pat, Van Hortons Normans Weed, C. W. Gibsons Eternal Amber, and Joseph Tuc-cis Handsome Fitz. Also Normalee Wel-dons Amulet. Normans Weed appears to have the best chance of upsetting Flatrock.
