Craig Has Big Victory Margin Jockey Howard Craig, annually among the top riders in the country, appears to be running away from his contemporaries in the race for the honors at this meeting. Craig has turned in 19 winning rides, had 15 seconds and 11 thirds for the first fifteen days of the meeting. His closest rivals are the young apprentice, Arthur Salem and jockey Gilbert Roser, a native of Cincinnati. Salem has nine wins, as does Roser. For the secondary portions, Salem has eight seconds and three thirds, while Roser has five seconds and five thirds. ~~ River Downs, Inc., finally chose their queen in the person of Miss Suge Mitchell. Suge was chosen to reign as Miss Infield of the new River Downs last Saturday. Though the judges had to wade through a driving rainstorm to select her from the three finalists, the rain did not dampen her beauty. Miss Mitchell is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Mitchell of Oakley, -Ohio. She is a graduate of St. Marys High School in Hyde Park and is presently employed as a secretary. Judges for the contest were Dottie Mack, of Station WCPO, Shirley Jester of WKRC and Mary Lou Case of WSAI and Jane Lynn of WLW. The winner is a student of the John Robert Powers modeling school. When trainer G. M. Johns saddled Penaway for the eighth race last Friday, the aged Whirlaway gelding celebrated his fourth victory of the year . . . This illustrious campaigner has quite a past, which includes the track record at Arlington Park for two miles on the turf, set June 24, 1953. The time was 3:25% . . . Another interesting note about a campaigner is that of P. H. Johnsons Big Ike. By Isolater — Neds Affinity, this horse won the 0000 Arkansas Derby in 1950, but failed to earn even a minor award in a ,500 claiming race here a few days ago . . . River Downs was admitted to the TRA last week and the activity has been increasing its pace in that department constantly
