CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES $ 4 LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 1. H. C. Hatchs Boys Howdy, an almost certain starter in the Kentucky Derby, worked a half mile in :47% easily over the Downs track late yesterday afternoon. Among the jockeys ready to accept mounts tomorrow are J. Marcum, W. Gooler, J. Sau-ter, G. Elston. G. Riley, D. Meade, K. Hoffman, H. R. Riley, C. Ponce, C. Legnon and H. Schutte. Other jockeys to ride here are C. Callahan, R. Martin, C. E. Allen, R. Mozer, E. Pool, K. Russell, P. Groos, D. McAuliffe, S. ODon-nell, P. Neal, C. Landolt, H. Tinker, N. Huff, J. McCoy. R. Finnerty, L. McDermott, C. Edwards, R. Cheatham, W. Carroll, F. Chia-vetta, D. O. Hardy, R. Reeves, J. Dell, W. Garner, H. Fisher, M. Rose, E. James, M. Skyrm, C. Corbett, E. Neal, W. Cannon, J. Smith, L. Fator, T. Murray, H. McHugh, C. Meyer and others. Co. E. R. Bradleys Kentucky Derby candidates Bar Hunter and Barometer, accompanied by Blind Bowboy, also a three-year-old, arrived here from their owners Idle Hour Farm. They are in charge of H. J. Thompson and the latter was accompanied by Mose Cossman, Colonel Bradleys representative. Cossman will look after the engagements of L. Fator, W. Cannon and J. Smith until his departure with Thompson for Belmont Park immediately after the running of the Derby. L. Fator and W. Cannon also go East at the same time, while J. Smith goes to Washington Park to ride for the division of the Bradley stable handled by W. Hurley. A. A. Baroni, with eleven horses, arrived here this morning from Tanforan. His string includes Upright, a Derby nominee; Don Alvaro, Nifty, E. Crofton, Wee Drop, Zida. Calome and others. Apprentice Ralph West, who suffered a leg fracture two months ago, accompanied Baroni, his contract employer, and hopes to resume riding in about two weeks. A division of the J. B. Respess stable, prepared at Latonia, arrived here from that track in charge of Henry Forrest. Older horses in the division are Quiver, Eagle Bird, Busy Monarch, Clipsetta and Diamond Glow. Respess expects to close with Paul Youkilis, a deal in which Eagle Bird would-be transferred to the latter. Thomas J. Pendergast of Kansas City and Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Nash of Chicago, are among the prominent visitors expected to arrive Saturday morning. Charles Graffagnini and Mrs. Graffagnini spent the day here. They stopped off en route by motor from New Orleans to Canada, where Mr. Graffagnini will race his small string. %
