OFFERS 0,000 FOR MATE A. C. Bostwick Turns Down Proposition of W. S. Kilmer for Kentucky Derby Hope. BALTIMORE, Md., May 1.— Andy Schut-tinger, on behalf of his employer, Willis Sharpe Kilmer of Binghamton, N. Y., this morning made an offer of 0,000 for Albert C. Bostwicks Mate, candidate for the Preakness and Kentucky Derby. Trainer J. W. Healy, who trains Mate, sent the chestnut son of Prince Pal — Killashandra out for a speed test this morning, and when he accomplished the first mile in 1:3935 of his mile and one-eighth trial, Schuttinger, who is in the market for a topnotch three-year-old, immediately hunted up owner Bostwick and made the offer. In discussing the offer, owner Bostwick had the following to say: "When Mr. Schuttinger first made the offer, I thought he was joking. However, he convinced me that he would like to possess Mate, but like every other man, I dearly love to own a good thoroughbred, therefore, wrhy should I sell?" Mates trial this morning was the fastest any Preakness or Kentucky Derby candidate has turned in this spring on a Maryland track. Jockey C. Critchfield. who was in the saddle, when questioned how fast he let the colt gallop, said he thought a mile in about 1:42, whereas the colt went the distance in the fractional time of :12, :24, :35*i, :48, 1:00"5, 1:13. 1:31%, 1:39%, where he was pulled up but galloped on out the extra eighth in 1:55°5. Trainer Healy was extremely pleased over Mates move, and will send the colt after the 0,000 stake here on May 9, barring an accident.
