DIXIE HANDICAP WORKOUTS Mirbat Displays Brilliant Form in One Mile Gallop at Pimlico — Snowflake Ready. BALTIMORE, Md., May 1.— Mirbat, son of Nouvel An-Obock, winner of the Pimlico Cup last fall, showed here Thursday morning that he will be dangerous in the 5,000 Dixie Handicap Saturday, by working a mile in 1:42. Trainer Jim Healey sent Mirbat out for a speed test, and he responded by going five-eighths in 1:01%, the three-quarters in 1:14%, seven-eighths in 1:28%, and the mile in 1:42. On this mornings move, Mirbat moved right up close to Willis Sharpe Kilmers Sun Beau, early favorite for the Dixie Handicap. If the track remains fast for Saturdays big race, it may mean that a new time record will be hung up. Mike Hall holds the present Dixie record of 1:59, which he made in 1927, while leading home Scapa Flow, Sir Harry and other good ones. Rocket Glare, owned by Sylvester W. Labrot, of Annapolis, Md., who is also a candidate for the Dixie, went a mile and one-eighth in :25, :50, 1:03, 1:16%, 1:42 and 1:57%, this morning. Walter J. Salmons Snowflake, which will run coupled with Dr. Freeland in the Dixie, had her final workout this morning. The four-year-old daughter of Mad Hatter — Snow-drop, went one mile and an eighth in :25, :49, 1:14%, 1:41 and 1:55%.
