GREENTREE STABLE STRONG Mrs. Payne Whitney Has Four Formidable Eligibles for Coveted Wood Memorial Stakes. NEW YORK, N. Y., May 1.— It was Wednesday that both Twenty Grand and Anchors Aweigh, of the Greentree Stable, showed by a trial at Belmont Park they were fit and ready for the one mile and seventy yards of the Wood Memorial Stakes, and Wednesday two others of the same strong string proved their readiness. These were Surf Board, recent winner of the Kings County Handicap, and St. Brideaux. All four are eligible for the Wood Memorial, so that James Rowe really has four fit horses from which to make his choice for the race. He has already named Anchors Aweigh as one choice and it is expected that the stable will be represented by one other at post time. Surf Board and St. Brideaux went along for the mile and an eighth distance in their trial and the first named colt worked in 1:56%, after going the first three-quarters in 1:16% and the mile in 1:42%. The move of St. Brideaux, while rlower, was equally impressive when he simply breezed the one mile and an eighth in 1:58, with the first three-quarters in 1:17 and the mile in 1:44. It is expected that Twenty Grand will be the companion of Anchors Aweigh in the Wood Memorial and, just as Panetian gave A. J. Joyner something of a line on Equipoise at Havre de Grace, it is probable that George D. Wideners Condescend will be the choice for the Wood Memorial, for he appears to be better fitted over this route than the sprinter. Condescend will act as a trial horse, always with Jamestown in view later to meet the best under the silks of Mr. Widener. James Fitzsimmons has both Ormesby and Sir Ashley, of William Woodwards Belair Stud Stable, ready for the Wood Memorial, and it is possible that he will saddle Blenheim, of the Wheatley Stable, but it appears doubtful. At this time the field for the Wood Memorial will probably come from Twenty Grand, Anchors Aweigh, Sir Ashley, Condescend, Knowlton, Mowris and possibly Camper. . A ! — — ■
