STEVENS APPOINTED STARTER DANVILLE; 111., April 1.— C. D. Stevens has been appointed starter for the Midwest Jockey Club, and will report for work, ready to school horses, by May 20. Carpenters are at work building mutuel booths, and painters are decorating, repairing and painting fences, grand stand and building a new judges stand. E. Knebelkamp has allotted stalls to over 250 head of horses. There will be stable room for 500 horses. The purses here will be from 00 to 00, with seven races daily. The C. and E. 1., and New York Central railroads are building unloading platforms within one block of the track. Everything will be in readiness to open on Decoration day.
