NUMEROUS LOUISVILLE WORKS Derby Candidates in Trials at Churchill Downs and Douglas Park — Mike Hall Training. LOUISVILLE. Ky., May 1.— Training under good conditions at Churchill Downs and Douglas Park this morning saw a number of "speed tests" given Kentucky Derby candidates scheduled for racing tomorrow. Those worked included Pittsburgher, Spanish Play, Don Leon, Prince D Amour and Sweep All among others. At Churchill Downs Spanish Play went a half mile in :35%, :48 and eased up five-eighths in 1:02; Pittsburgher went a half mile over the same track in :48% and five-eighths in 1:02; Don Leon breezed three-eighths at the Downs in :354f,. and Sweep All showed a pronounced fancy for the same going when he ran three-eighths in :344s, handily. He began with Deemster, but soon drew away, and Deemster was timed in :35%. At Douglas Park trainer N. K. Beal sent Prince D Amour three-eighths in :36%, and he was accompanied by Princess Tell, which was timed in :36%. Lesser lights among the Derby eligibles also figured in the training at the Downs, where The Mongol and Conscience went a quarter in :24s; Hopefield, five-eighths in 1:05.-,; Judge Lueders, three-quarters in 1:18. and Harvest Sun three-eighths in :362i. None were out of steady restraint. Mike Hall. R. M. Eastmans winner of the 00,000 Agua Caliente Handicap, worked three-quarters in 1:15%. handily, and trainer Walter Taylor will go right along with the geldings preparation for the 0,000 added Grainger Memorial Handicap, to be run on the closing day of the meeting. Overlay, Doris Jean, Alyssum. Town Limit, Silver Beauty, In Haste and Cousin Jo were among the Kentucky Oaks candidates given useful work during the morning. Silver Beauty and In Haste, working together, went one mile and an eighth in 1:58, breezing. They went the quarter in 25%, half in :521s. three-quarters in 1:18 and the mile in 1:44%. Alyssum and Town Limit, the J. W. Par-rish eligibles for the mentioned fixtures, were indulged in trials over the mil distance and they went along speedily and on even terms in the fast time of 1:41% The quarter in :24%, half in :49% and hree-quarters in 1:15%. Overlay negotiated the same distance in 1:43%, handily, the quarter in :25, half in :50 and three-quarters in 1:16%. In preparation for something more exacting tomorrow Cousin Jo was "open-] up" three-eighths in :37%.
