ONE MORE FOR SEAGRAM Canadians Silks First in Another Detroit Stake Race. Santan Lasts to Defeat Beauflower by Nose in St. Clair Stakes Transmutable Wins. a DETROIT, Mich., June 1 E. F. Seagram," Canadian sportsman, furnished his second stakes winner of the meeting when Santan, which carried off the Victoria Stakes honors at Woodbine last Saturday, lasted to beat Willis Sharpe Kilmers Beauflower by a nose in the first renewal of the St. Clair Stakes, which featured the Detroit program here this afternoon. The Northland Farms Don Creole was third, a half a length back of Beauflower and three lengths before Liz F., which experienced little trouble in leading five other juveniles to the finish of the five furlongs dash that was worth ,890 to owner Seagram, who furnished Stand Pat, the winner of the Col. Alger Memorial Handicap last Thursday. Racing Grand Girl into submission after five-sixteenths, the winner held on gamely to best Beauflower, which swerved badly in the stretch. Don Creole, which came from far back, was caught in close quarters during the final furlong and but for this probably would have, reversed the finish. The winner was a 17 to l0 choice and ran the distance in 1:00, ..one and four-fifths seconds short of Try Sympathys record. By far the most attractive program, of the meeting was offered for the second Saturday of Detroit racing here this afternoon. The eight-race program, which consisted of two handicaps, the St. Clair Stakes for two-year-olds, two allowance affairs and three claiming races, was witnessed by a crowd only exceeded by the gathering present on Memorial Day. Supporting the feature was the Paul Whiteman Band Handicap and it attracted six performers for a six furlongs sprint. The noted orchestra leader and the members of his band entertained the gathering during the greater part of the afternoon.
