ILCHESTER IN GAME FINISH Manages to Stave Off Final Rush of Marmion to Account for Thorn-cliffe Feature. TORONTO, Ontario, June 1. Ilchester, consistent five-year-old son of Dunlin and Effort racing under the silks of J. E. Small-man, drove to a head victory in the Bryan and OHara Memorial Handicap, feature of a program witnessed by 15,000 at Thorn-cliffe Park this afternoon. Mrs. A. J. Abels Marmion, ridden by her husband, Albert Abel, was a threatening second, and Mrs. James Badames Trey a tiring third in the field of seven which traversed the mile and a sixteenth route. Ilchester earned a prize of ,880 for the London sportsman, and trainer George Alexandra received, on behalf of Mr. Small-man, a handsome silver trophy, presented by James OHara, Jr. The time was 1:46, over the fast track. Jockey R. Watson, king pin of the older-riders performing in Canada, got Ilchester away in good order as Thomas Rowe lifted the barrier to a perfect start. The boy reserved the Smallman gelding off the early pace for five furlongs and, leaving the back stretch", moved up on the outside to strike at Trey, which had taken command from Donna Julia. Ilchester subdued Trey leaving the final furlong post, and just lasted before Marmions belated charge under a vigorous hand ride. , Marmion, which was coupled in the favored Abel entry with St. Moritz, was slow to find his stride, but moved up fast from the three-furlong post and, at the end, was wearing down the winner.
