BELAIR STUDS VICAR fakes Hampton Cup Handicap, the ,000 Feature at Rockingham. Dogmata and Lynx Eye Finish Second and Third, Respectively-Large Crowd, Bad Weather. 4 " SALEM, N. H., June 1. Vicar, sterling four-year-old son of Flying Ebony and Valkyr, racing for the Belair Stud, carried the white with red dots silks to a clever victory in the Hampton Cup Handicap at Rockingham Park this afternoon. The Hampton Cup was endowed with ,000 added, and the Flying Ebony colt, coupled with Maddest, from the Wheatley Stable, added ,840 to his earnings by his triumph. Chasing the Belair colt over the line came Dogmata, from the A. G. Vanderbilt string. R. Robertsons Lynx Eye, the public .choice and topweight of the field, was third, well in front of Gallant Mac. The latter, making his first start of the meeting, raced in the forefront from the start. After a delay of six minutes- at the post, caused chiefly by the unruly antics of Legionary, the field left in almost the same stride. Stout wasted little time hustling Vicar to the front and drawing clear by the time the first turn was reached. Legionary chased closest after the pacemaker, and the Vanderbilt four-year-old was showing the way to the others. Lynx Eye, as is his usual custom,- was back among the trailers, and did not start to move up until approaching the turn out of the back stretch. Rob- ertson chose the outside when making his effort. Vicar continued to hold the command, and Dogmata had supplanted Legionary from second place. In the stretch it was atill the Belair colt that showed the way, and had daylight showing over his closest rival, Dogmata. Lynx Eye had moved up . with good speed, ran down Legionary and Bet sail for the leaders. Through the last furlong Stout had the winner under a brisk hand ride, and was over the line in front, while Dogmata was at his saddle girth. Lynx Eye made a determined endeavor in the stretch through the closing strides, but was not godd enough. 4
