BABOO crossed over sharply shortly after the break, then was rushed into a long lead and, increasing it steadily, won as his rider pleased. NORTHERN WATER, showing more speed than usual, lost ground on the first turn, moved up rapidly in the back stretch and, while finishing gamely, did not threaten the winner. PRINCE BALLOT, far back early, saved ground entering the stretch and closed gamely. SHADY WOOD, knocked back when BABOO crossed over, was well placed early, but lacked speed. MADAM QUEEN Jacked early speed, worked her way up cradually, made a game bid in the stretch, but tired nearing the end. LILAC BLOOM, far back early, finished gamely in the final quarter.
