COLUMBUS TURF NOTES t The spring meeting at Beulah Park afforded proof that form can be served over a six furlongs track in splendid fashion. Track records were lowered during the meeting for nearly every distance raced. Felawake which was one of the three horses to win four races during the meeting, ran the six furlongs in 1:13 to establish a new record. Inspection, another four-time winner, and Odd Star later equalled the mark. Felawake also cut two-fifths of a second off the standard for the mile by running the eight furlongs in 1:39 flat. A number of other races at that distance were run in close to record time. Dozana and Reverberate, both of which are trained by Tom Miller, made new records at seven and nine furlongs respectively. Dozana ran the seven furlongs in 1:25, and Reverberate raced the mile and an eighth in 1:53. Three trainers saddled six victors each to tie for top honors. Douglas Hoffman of Dayton, Ohio, started six horses during the meeting and five of them won with the consistent sprinter, Donna Barona, tallying on two occasions. Tom Miller of Texas started five horses at the course and all were winners with Rosireigh home in front twice. James Bronnenberg of Middletown, Ind., also had six winners with the fleet sprinter, Odd Star, accounting for three of them. Odd Star was one "of the two horses that was unbeaten at the meeting. The other was the veteran router, King Kelly, which came home in front four times in as many efforts and which is owned by Jerry Bronnenberg of Daleville, Ind. Jockey Joe Sylvester won the riding championship and the 00 wrist watch given by Burr W. Miller of the Miller Oil Co. of Columbus and a sterling patron of the thoroughbreds. Sylvester rode twenty-six winning mounts, Jockey Jack Long was second with twenty-one and apprentice Homer Derden, third with eighteen. Racing at Northampton Park which opens the season in the Cleveland district will be for purses ranging from 00 to 00.
