INFIDOX FINALLY WINS Earns First Purse of 1936 at Popular Hawthorne Course. Jockey A. Robertson Completes Double Astride Ogle Colorbearer Cardarrone Disappoints. Infidox, winner of five races and more than 2,000 last year, came through with his first winning performance in seven starts as a three-year-old when he defeated a small but fast band in one of three allowance races on the program of the Chicago Business Mens Racing Association at Hawthorne Monday. This was the Washington Pine Purse, and having finished second on his previous visit to the post, the son of Infinite and Paradox was installed favorite to take the six and one-half furlongs dash. Ridden by Alfred Robertson in the colors of D. L. Ogle and running the distance on a fast track in 1:19, Infidox gained the initial 1936 score in handy fashion and by two lengths. B. F. Christmas furnished the runner-up in the four-year-old Sunned and he defeated A. C. Comptons Microbe for the place award by two and one-half lengths. Chief Cherokee, The Hare and Buck Lang-horne completed the field and finished in that order. The winner performed under top weight of 115 pounds and before only a fair sized crowd, though ideal weather for the sport prevailed. Other features on the program, which inaugurated the final two weeks of Hawthorne racing were the Congress Hotel Purse and the Guyon Hotel Purse. Robertson was completing a double astride the Ogle hovzz. LITTLE TO THE CONTEST. With Infidox sprinting into a good lead in the opening quarter, and Sunned, Microbe and Chief Cherokee doing all their racing in the positions in which they started there was little to the contest. Sunneds futile effort to reach the winner when his rider, F. Faust, called on him for his best in the itretch was a game one and, while well outrun, Microbe and Chief Cherokee came through with good performances. Having won the Congress Hotel Purse with Teddy Haslam, the R. C. Thatcher stable gained a dual win and its first at the meeting when Cottingham scored over six other three-year-old fillies in the Guyon Hotel Purse at six furlongs. Coming from behind in a furiously fought stretch drive, Cottingham dropped her head in front within a few strides of the finish. Bamboo, which had taken the lead on the stretch turn only to fall short in a valiant bid for the honors, took second a neck before Threadneedle. Then followed Sandstone, Black Widow, Roguish Girl and Idle Way. Last out of the starting stalls and racing wide throughout, Threadneedle, which was the public choice, gave a smashing performance and with better luck might have landed in the van of the field. Cottingham returned odds of almost 10 to 1 straight, and like her successful stable companion, was ridden by Charles Corbett. JAW BREAKER DECISIVELY. Jaw Breaker, racy looking son of Chicle and Baba Kenny, for which Mrs. Ethel V. Mars, owner of Milky Way Farms, gave ,500 at the Saratoga yearling sales last fall, signaled the inauguration of his racing career with a winning performance when he raced to a decisive victory over eleven other maiden two-year-olds in the first race at five and one-half furlongs. Strongly recommended by fast private trials, the Milky Way youngster ruled a pronounced favorite and his victory was very popular. Second to complete the distance was Shan-don Farms Overplay. He went down to defeat by two lengths while leading L. B. Combs Woodberry by a length for second. The second choice, Gallant Eagle, after encountering early ill luck, failed to threaten and finished sixth. With the favorite. Black Scout, loafing so badly that he was far back throughout, the three-quarters second race, for older sprinters of the ,000 class, went to Well Heeled. He won handily, with Canteron, which was lightly regarded, in second place, and Shasta Broom third. Continued on third page. 1NF1D0X FINALLY WINS Continued from first page. P. Keester rushed the winner to the front along the rail in the opening quarter and aided by a breathing spell on the turn, he continued in good stride to shake off Threat and hold Canteron safe in the final run. Finishing strong, Shasta Broom overtook Threat, which weakened after about five furlongs. The veteran Bubbling Over mare, Full Up, raced to her second triumph in successive starts when as the public choice and with J. McCoy in the saddle, she scored over eight, all of the cheaper variety, in the third race, over six and one-half furlongs. Whiskarita accounted for second money, with Miss Twinkle third and Red Go fourth. Rushed to the front at the start, the seven-year-old winner gamely repulsed a challenge from Whiskarita after they had reached the stretch and drawing away in the last seventy yards, won by a little more than a length. Miss Twinkle was four lengths farther back. R. C. Thatchers Teddy Haslam was another to score for the second time in successive appearances and his victory in the Congress Hotel Purse, for three-year-olds, run as the fourth race, came in a stirring finish. Holding off the determined challenge of E. R. Bradleys Bubblette in a long, hard drive, he finished the three-quarters with a head margin over the Idle Hour filly. Emi-grante, which finished third, four lengths back, is owned by George Keeton. Min Or-mont was fourth.
