AT LOCAL TRACKS. Several probable starters in the race, which will be contested over the long route of a mile and one-quarter, are training at Hawthorne and Arlington Park. Today Tatterdemalion, Tugboat Frank, Sir Jim James and Rushaway are expected from Detroit with Hollyrood and Sparta due from the same point the following day. Gean Canach may be shipped on from New York for the race. Carvola, Sparta and Split Second are the only fillies entered. The latter, owned by the King Ranch, of Texas, was unplaced in the Detroit Derby and may not be a starter. Six of the twenty-three others are geldings. When the race was temporarily revived in 1933 it was the first running since 1925. It had its inception at the old west side park in 1890. Following annual runnings from 1891 to 1894, inclusive at Hawthorne it was abandoned until 1904, following which came a lapse of twenty years before the return of racing to this state permitted its revival.
