JAW BREAKER, making his first start and having speed from the start, forced the early pace under mild restraint, quickly shook off WOODBERRY when urged in the final quarter and raced greenly after drawing clear, but held his lead safe. OVERPLAY, taken to the inside soon after the start and slow to respond to pressure, came with good speed when on the outside in the stretch. WOODBERRY, on the inside after the first eighth, displayed good speed from the start, but tired near the end. VIAJERO had no mishaps and held on well. TIMBERLINE failed to keep up. WELL HEELED rushed to the front on the inside and, given a breathing spell on the turn, continued with determination under occasional light pressure in the stretch and withstood CANTERONS rush to win handily. The latter, on the inside early but taken out when approaching the stretch, closed boldly in a good effort. SHASTA BROOM, away fast but unable to hold the advantage, lost much ground early and finished well after having gradually improved his position in the final five-sixteenths. THREAT, rank at the post, tired after five-eighths. DANDY DANCER began slowly. BLACK SCOUT, fractious at the post and raced wide, did not extend himself. WHISKARITA, in hand for a half mile, made a game challenge before tiring, but held the others safe. MISS TWINKLE raced wide early and well up after a quarter, could not improve her position under strong urging in the stretch. RED GO dropped back on the turn and came again mildly near the close. The latter, forced to race wide, was under vigorous handling in the final quarter and held on with determination, though unable to get up. EMIGRANTE moved up boldly on the outside in the stretch, then tired. MIN ORMONT held on well. CARDARRONE had speed from the start, but save way steadily after reaching the stretch. REMINISCENT tired. THREADNEEDLE, probably best and away slowly, raced wide throughout, improved her position gradually and was wearing down the leaders. SANDSTONE went well. BLACK WIDOW held on well. ROGUISH GIRL quit. BLACK RIVER, saving ground throughout, made the early pace under restraint, was shaken up soon after reaching the stretch, where he continued well to win with something left. MR. JOE improved his position fast when saving ground on the. first turn, was steadied along to the final -three-eighths, where he stood pressure gamely, though failing to threaten the winner. SPANISH LAD, rank at the post, where he was placed on the outside, began poorly and, much used in the early racing, faltered when the real test came. SPICSON began slowly. STAR BANNER showed a poor effort. INFLAME bore out on the first turn, again on the far turn, then failed to keep up. Scratched 18586 Bonnie Princess, 108. UNCOMMON GOLD, on the inside throughout, took command without need of pressure, continued gamely to the final fifty yards, where he faltered and failed to withstand the winner. SHADY GATE closed resolutely. TREK, outrun early, finished with good couragp in the drive. PORT O PLAY had no excuse CHARLIE CHAN faltered after reaching contention.
