PAY-OFFS IN DEAD HEATS The same procedure of paying off wagers made away from the track in cases of dead heats for second or third places is followed as if the dead heaters had finished first. If was bet and 2 to 1 laid on one horse to place, the pay-off would be .50 to the player and .50 to the layer.
