SLOPPY TRACK AT AGAWAM Salut DAmour Carries W. Fischettis Colors to Victory in Enfield Purse, Days Main Event. AGAVAM, Mass., June 18. Salut DAmour, brown six-year-old gelding, carried the black and white polka dots silks of W; Fischetti home in front in the Enfield Purse, listed as the feature event here, at Agawam Park. The winner raced the mile and one-sixteenth over a track that was deep in slop in 1:51 to defeat Royal Rover by a half length, with Lady Sage leading Sand Cloud for third, while Sickle Hour and Golden Words completed the field. There was a switch in riders from the previous start when Johnny Mann replaced the youthful Barba astride Salut DAmour. Leaving the gate Mann rushed his mount into a long lead, then wisely took a snug hold on his head, rating him along for a breather as Royal Rover after trailing on the first turn, moved up on the outside to take a brief lead. Mann sat still, confidently waiting until straightening into the stretch before again permitting his mount to have his head. After straightening out, Mann struck his mount sharply with the whip, then resorted to hand riding to again pass Royal Rover at the seventy yard post, though his margin at the. end was but a half length. Heavy overhead skies that released sudden downpours of rain, hung over this vicinity throughout the day, turning the track into a sea of mud. Regardless of this, a large crowd was on hand, while the speculation in the majority of the events was brisk, with followers of form being successful throughout the day.
