REINSTATE JOCKEY S. ERWIN v DETROIT, Mich., June 18. At the request of jockey S. Erwin and trainer J. P. Angner, owner of Helios, which was disqualified Wednesday, the stewards held a special meeting today to give the boy a hearing. Erwin testified that he had taken the mount after several of the riders had refused on account of the horses tendency to run out in races, and showed by the record that the horse had been disqualified for the same offense before. Jockeys R. Fisher and T. Meloche were called before the stewards, and Fischer stated that he had ridden the horse in many races and that at times he would go to the outside fence in spite of any effort that a boy might make. Meloche testified that the horse had gone to the outside fence at Alamo Downs with Charlie Allen, and that he had notified his agent not to put him on the horse. The stewards, feeling that an injustice might, have been done Erwin, removed his suspension and notified racing secretary Everett not to accept Helios entry until they were satisfied that he could be rigged so as to make him run straight in races.
