ARCHIDAMIA BEST IN ITALY, Brilliant Daughter of Manna Accounts for Four of Five Outstand- ing Races Run to Date. Special Correspondence ROME, Italy. To date four of the f iyo three-year-old classics decided, namely ihe ". Premio Parioli, the Premo Regino Elena, the equivalents of the English Two Thousand and One Thousand Guineas, respectively, the Italian Oaks called the Premio di Diana " for the first time this year and. the Italian i Derby, now known as the Kings Prize, have been all won by the filly Archidamia, brilliant daughter of the 1925 English Derby and Two Thousand Guineas hero, Manna. Archidamia, best juvenile of her sex and last year the winner of the Grand Criterium, . has von her only four starts this season. All her successes were gained in the easiest possible manner, though it took her 2:38 to cover the Derby route of one mile and a half, moderate time, caused no doubt by the holding state of the track, as the race was run under miserable weather conditions. A smaller attendance than was expected, including the King of Italy, the Queen of Bulgaria and the ex-King of Spain, saw the only filly in the field, Archidamia, score an easy two-length victory over Nipissing, with the heavily-played choice, Ettore Tito, four lengths farther away in third place. Tellurio, second choice in the betting, was another four lengths back to take fourth money in a field of eight starters. The winner, a 4 to-1 chance in the betting, was bred at the Soldo Stud belonging to the brothers Dr. Mario and Victor Crespi, and carried their silks. DAUGHTER OF MANNA. This marked a second success by the same colors in the Italian Derby, as Pilade, a son of the defunct English Derby winner Captain Cuttle, also bore this livery to victory in 1933. Archidamia is a good-looking, sizable bay daughter of Manna, from the Italian-bred mare Archippe, by Manibe a son of Rabelais by St. Simon from Ariana, daughter of Sig-norino runner-up in the 1905 Two Thousand Guineas and third in the Derby, from An-dromedo, by Marco, from Ellaline, by Bend Or. from Dorothy Draggletail. The daughter of Manna, winner of her last six starts, has so far earned 330,258 lire in first money prizes, and is eligible to compete in the principal Italian races, including the final classic, the St. Leger, and also the Braunes Band von Deutschland, the richest and most important race in Germany this year. . - The sixth offspring of her dam and hailing from the No 7 family, Archidamia is trained by Frederico Regoli -who, when a jockey, rode no fewer than eight Italian Derby winners. She was ridden by the present-day champion rider, P. Capriolo, who has been leading rider nine times since 1918. This years Derby choice, Ettore Tito, son of the St. Leger winner, Fairway, and Gay Gamp, a daughter of the war-time triple crown hero, Gay Crusader, carried the silks and was bred by the keenest of good sportsmen, Signor Frederico Tesco, who thus bred twelve Italian Derby winners and trained one more. He won the classic last year with Ugolino.
