TEN IN LAT0N1A OAKS Dixiana Stables Brendard Probable Public Choice Over Rivals. Sparta Considered Most Dangerous Contender Final Week of Current Meeting Begins Monday. LATONIA, Ky., June 26 Ten of the best three-year-old fillies performing in this section are scheduled to match strides in the fortieth running of the ,000 added Latonia Oaks, which serves as the headline attraction of a well-balanced program at the Latonia Jockey Club track Saturday afternoon. There were a total of forty-one nominations for the mile and one furlong contest, but thirty-one of the eligibles failed to come up to expectations and therefore were not named in the overnight entries for the historic filly fixture. Because of a recent triumph over the Latonia track Dixianas Brendard, a chestnut daughter of Epinard and Brenda, is likely to rule a slight favorite over Hal Price Headleys Sparta. The latters chief claim to fame is her having finished second to Holly-rood, her stable companion, in the 5,000 Detroit Derby a few weeks ago. W. C. Goodloes Seventh Heaven was among the thoroughbreds campaigned by Amos Wallin at Riverside Park and Omaha, and arrived this morning to fulfill her engagement in the Oaks. The stables contract rider, Frankie Grill, accompanied the racer to Latonia. The remainder of the overnight field consists of Asyouwere, Dora May, Snow Fairy, Marica, Belle of Midway, Gorgeous Lady and Toni, thus providing what appears to be a stellar contest for racegoers of this section. Jockey Joe Mattioli came from Detroit to pilot Sparta in the stake, while Charley Stevenson will have the mount on Brendard, which will be Dixianas lone representative in the race. Seventh Heaven received her initial test at Latonia Friday morning when Jack Howard, who will saddle the filly for the race,; had the daughter of Hustle On Alinka on the track for a five-eighths work. Seventh Heaven went the first quarter in :24, half mile in :50 and the five-eighths in 1:03, breezing. Snow Fairy, from the stable of the veteran turfman J. B. Respess, was the only other member of the Oaks field to appear on the track, and her work was more in the nature of an "opener," as the bay daughter of Byrd Busy Fairy went only three furlongs, which she turned in :36, in handy manner. In addition to the renewal of the Oaks, racing secretary Shelley has scheduled eight other races, one of which is the Gentlemens Cup race, over the mile and seventy yards Continued on third page. t TEN IN LATONIA OAKS Continued from first page. distance. The best of the gentlemen riders in the Kentucky-Ohio sector will be seen aboard the various starters. A similar race staged at Churchill Downs gained such popular favor that it was decided to stage another at Latonia. It will occupy seventh position on the program. The remainder of the program is well balanced and is likely to attract one of the largest crowds of the current meeting, which moves into its final week with Mondays program.
