LADYSMAN IN COMEBACK ROLE Putnam Star Starts Today in Puritan Handicap at Suffolk Downs : Pulls Up Lame. BOSTON, Mass., June 26. Ladysman returns to the racing wars tomorrow, after a long layoff, in the ,000 added Puritan Handicap, which features the week-end sport at Suffolk Downs. Cleaveland Putnams campaigner, one of the best handicap horses in action two years back, has been working famously in New- England, "even though he still shows signs of the lameness that laid him low and caused his retirement. He pulls up after his workouts a bit gimpy, but Johnny Parmalee does not believe that this will affect his racing. The horse is reported to be doing well and in the best of health. In the Puritan, Ladysman will pack top weight of 115 pounds. He is hardly likely to rule the choice, however. Leon Carters Black Gift, which will be in the mile and a sixteenth event under 108 pounds, promises to be the public choice. He has been in excellent form ever since he won the Philadelphia Handicap down in Maryland. Mrs. E. K. Hastings Old Story will also be accorded plenty of support in the race, as will Mrs. Ray Pollards Chance Line. Old Story has the light weight of 101, and Chance Line has been handicapped at 107. C. V. Whitneys Roustabout, often a disappointment in this section, will attempt to make amends in tomorrows race, although most; folks believe he is a bit beyond his distance. Belairs Gallant Prince, which has failed to flash the form he showed at Nar-ragansett in recent starts, will be in this event under 103. The others in the field are Scotch Bun, Gallant Mac and Accolade. The weights that racing secretary Ben Holmes has given the entrants should make for one of the most thrilling tilts of the current season. The feature, however, will be almost overshadowed in interest by the fourth race, a five furlongs dash that brings together the outstanding two-year-olds that have shown their wares here.
