I SUFFOLK DOWNS NOTES j Jockey Herbie Simmons arrived here today from California and joined forces with the stable of Miss A. Doris. Apprentice R. King is en route to Suffolk Downs from the. West Coast. Bud Burmeister, publicity director of the Arlington Downs meeting, was a visitor at Suffolk Downs. He combined business vith pleasure, distributing pamphlets, listing the stakes to be decided at the fall meeting, opening October 22 and continuing to November 21. H. L. Campbell, trainer for Miss A. Doris, received a wire notifying him of the death of his father, H. O. Campbell, at his home in Conshohocken, Pa., and left immediately for the funeral. On his arrival here trainer and owner "Joe Roberts received a shock in the form of a notification of his suspension by the Hawthorne officials. He departed immediately for Chicago to appear, before the racing board, Jockey X. Peering, rider for Joe Roberts, will remain .here; for the balance of the meeting, , Brown Jack, "property of the F. A. Car-reaud stable, dropped lead in tlie starting stall gate this morning while being schooled. Trainer Frank Kearns of the Calumet Farm Stable, reports that the six-year-old chestnut gelding, Warren Jr., has broken "down badly an4 will be shipped to Chicago and retired. Warren Jr. won the Valley Handicap at. the recent Narragansett. meeting, arfd was returned tire winner in two out of his "three recent starts" at that point.
