TWOSOME sprinted to the front in the first eighth, set a fast pace, was headed briefly at the stretch head, came again under hard urging and held GAYETTE safe at the end. The latter, well back for five-eighths, slipped through on the inner rail in the stretch and finished with a belated rush. HI-SUGAR moved up with a rush midway of the stretch turn, secured a slight margin in the stretch, but tired again and was bearing out at the end. ROYAL SHOOT quit after forcing the pace a half mile. SQUARE PLAY had the most speed at all times, but was driving hard at the end to hold off HALLOO. The latter, forced wide rounding the turn, finished with a belated rush in the middle of the track. IDENTICAL, slow to begin, worked its way up steadily rounding the far turn, came to the outside in the stretch run and finished gamely. DEEP RUN, close up at all times, held on well, though tiring. SUMAC tired after going a half mile. UNCLE JULY broke well, but was crowded back on the inner rail and was never prominent thereafter. CATCHALL rushed up into contention along the inner rail, was slightly blocked by the pacemaker midway of the turn, came to the outside and closing steadily, got up again in the final stride. CHARMED EYES broke fast, was rushed into the lead in the first eighth, showed good speed, drew clear on the turn, but tired again right at the end and just failed to last. RUNNING WATER, closest to the first" two at all times, made a game effort in the stretch, but could not improve its position. CURLING showed a good even race at all times. TIMBUCTOO, well back in the early stages, circled around fast on the outside and finished with a belated rush. The latter forced the pace at all times, tried gamely, but could not wear the winner down. AURICA, slow to find its best stride, was forced to race wide around the. turn and made up ground through the stretch. TEETER TOTTER raced along just back of the leaders most of the trip. PADDYS SISTER, always close to the pace, was forced wide on the stretch and finished well, but could not get up. CANANA moved up with a rush midway of the turn and closed with splendid courage in the last part. GRITFORD closed an immense gap in the last part. The latter, taken back at the far turn, moved up again when called upon, but could iiot wear the winner down. LIGHT BROOK, a rail runner, was blocked when attempting to squeeze through on. the inner rail at the half mile post, was taken around NOCTURNLABE, but again bore down to the inner rail in the last eighth. STILL ALARM trailed far back for the first seven-eighths and closed with a belated rush on the extreme outside. SUN WAY moved up fast midway of the stretch turn, but hung again when the real test came. NOCTURNLABE, though close up in the early stages, was never a contender, but blocked LIGHT BROOK when the latter attempted to squeeze through on the rail. EIGHTH RACE 1 1-16 MILES. TENLESS, under mild restraint, raced within striking distance of the leaders, closed full of courage in the last quarter and would have been second in another stride. POLLY DEAR sprinted to the front on the first turn and established the pace, but dropped back midway of the back stretch and came again when called upon in the last eighth. AIRWAY had no excuses.
