i ARLINGTON DOWNS NOTES j The stable of Mrs. E. E. Russell inaugurated its Arlington campaign when Hy-marque carried the Russell silks in Tuesdays fifth race. Others in the establishment are Golden Fate, Master Time, Sun Apollo, Kendal Green, Retired, Maiden Dream, Rocky Prince and Manya. For winning Monday, Aileen C. had to shoulder 115 pounds instead of eight pounds less in the third race Tuesday. Trainers of several of the stables received copies of the first Santa Anita condition book Tuesday morning. Santa Anita expects to attract a big percentage of the larger establishments campaigning here. William C. Stroube, Corsicana turf patron, whose Croon captured the West Texas Handicap here last Saturday, has been a regular visitor since the opening. He commutes between Arlington Downs and his home. Arlington Downs officials expect A. Pelle-teri with the remainder of his stable from Maryland. Jockey C. Corbett will accompany the New Orleans turfman, for whom he rides. M. E. Caseys Summit View Stable, trained by J. C. Cahn, and the horses of E. B. Carpenter arrived from River Downs. Empty Bottle is the foremost of the Carpenter performers, while the Casey string includes Handsome Hal, Senator Mike, Rapid Prince, Buck Sergeant, Pleasing Color, Queer Light, Drastic Lane, Vandevon and Leading Bet. With Busy Spain temporarily on the sidelines as the result of rapping himself in his last race at Lincoln Fields, trainer George Neal must depend upon Florid and Sleep Along for the current meeting. All are owned by Mrs. L. Hartrlck of Detroit. Several late arrivals increased to 209 the number of stables duly registered with the Texas Jockey Club. Jimmy Gordon, apprentice under contract to A. G. Tarn, checked in here Monday. Refreshed by a months vacation at his home in Idaho, Burley Parke resumes turf operations with Resisting and Fair Mole as his only horses. The horses were shipped here a week ago, while Just Fun, Parkes only other thoroughbred, has been retired for the winter. Dirigible and Sweeperman, useful campaigners for E. S. Walker, were shipped here from Narragansett in the same car as the racers of James Vaughn and M. Simmons. Witchlore, owned by H. C. Rumage, has been turned over to J. L. Oglesby to train. Rotund Goldy F. Mitchell, young turfman of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., saddled his first winner when Miss Glace stepped home in front in the closing race here Monday. Mitchell became a trainer in his own right several weeks ago, but until Monday had not succeeded in placing Miss Glace, his only horse, where she could win. Miss Glace, placed several times at Epsom Downs, cost Mitchell 00. William C. Whitley, former jockey under Roscoe Goose, noted Kentucky turfman and one of the saddle aces twenty years ago, is making the engagements of L. Haas and S. Roberts, along with handling clerical details for Woolford Farm. O. L. Foster, Texas turfman whose string of twelve arrived here Sunday from New England, stopped off in Indiana and Kentucky en route here and Is not expected before Thursday.
