BUSY AT AGUA CALIENTE Workmen Dressing Up Plant for Meeting Opening May 8 Stable Applications Total 430. AGUA CALIENTE, Mexico, April 6. While more than 100 workmen were busy today dressing up the Agua Caliente track for its impending season, which will be opened May 8, horses were being led to their stalls. The stable enclosure, for the past two years, had the appearance of Goldsmiths deserted village, but it was coming into new life today. First thoroughbreds led across the line were those of H. T. Palmer, San Ysidro, California breeder. Requests for stabling accommodations are being received daily. One of the latest is from Leo Loeff, Los Angeles turfman who has requested thirteen stalls, which have been granted. Included in the Loeff string are the horses Dignified, Jocks Image, and In Chancery. Business in San Diego was awakening today to the resumption of racing at the border plant From many business leaders came the offer of co-operation for the Agua Caliente Turf Club. Indorsements are being given by various city leaders and organizations. All of these realize that the racing will be a new industry for San Diego and will welcome the return of King Horse with open arms. An informal open house at the Caliente track Sunday drew a great crowd of visitors, and this despite the fact that Mexico was holding a congressional election. The battle of ballots in Mexico generally is staged on a Sunday and this results in the thirst emporiums being closed. Accordingly, the big crowd in Tiajuana Sunday could have been said to have been drawn principally for a view of the track. To date the stable applications total 430. Not alone from California will come the thoroughbreds, for shipments will be arriving from Texas and other race centers. M. W. Buck, well known western horseman now racing at Arlington Downs, is representing the Agua Caliente Club at that track. Buck has just advised Eugene Normile, Agua Caliente head, that at least three carloads will be entraining soon from Arlington Downs for Caliente.
