NO SPRING MEETING j AT RIVER DOWNS - - 4 CINCINNATI, Ohio, April 6. All hope for a spring session at the River Downs track was abandoned late Tuesday afternoon following a meeting held in the offices of the River Downs Jockey Club, which operated the track after acquiring it from William V. Dwyer last fall. Peter A. Horback, president of the club, made this announcement after a meeting which was attended by Edward P. Strong, general manager; Harry Allshouse; William F. Heckerman and Peter J. McCarthy, members of the board of directors. ABANDON PLANS. In a statement to the writer, Horback said: "In all fairness to the horsemen who have applied for stall space and with no possible chance of having the stalls and barns washed away by the flood replaced in time for the opening of a spring meeting, originally planned to start May 5th, we have decided to abandon the spring season and devote all our time towards having the necessary construction work and improvements completed for an early fall meeting. The shortage of skilled labor has made this move imperative, but with the additional time we will be ready for the opening of the fall meeting about September 1." About 00,000 will be spent in improvements to the track with the finest equipped barns and stables of any race track in America. It is not believed that a meeting of forty-four days allowed under the Ohio laws would be held during the fall, but a session of thirty or more days is planned. Definite plans will be announced later.
