BOWIE KINDERGARTEN TODAY Maryland Track Staging Eleventh Renewal of Juvenile Stake Over an Off Track. BOWIE, Md., April 6. The second of three stakes which comprise the Bowie spring meeting fixtures will be decided tomorrow with the eleventh running of the Kindergarten, a dash for two-year-olds over four furlongs. With ,500 added to the purse it attracted a field of eight, representing six different interests. The Bowie Kindergarten was inaugurated in 1926 and Red Rocket, ridden by W. Smith, proved the winner over Best Friend and Bobby Jones. Subsequent winners of the event were Rapid Transit, Sand Fiddler, Vander Pool, Portam, Acau-taw, Wise Daughter, Angelic, Bright Land and Irrepressible. Jockey Johnny Gilbert will be striving for his fourth victory in the race. The Syrian, under contract to the John Hay Whitney establishment, is astride Last Lay. A deep and muddy track, coupled with unsettled overhead conditions, eliminates any starters which are at their best over a fast track. The Manhasset Stable entry of Smoke Signal and Last Lay shape up as the probable favorite for the race, although Ben-jam, owned by the Bomar Stable, will not be without supporters. Benjam, on the strength of his victory here, is top weight of the field.
