TRIAL GALLOPS AT LEXINGTON Menow, Stands Alone, Gov. Chandler and Dickerville Sent Over Various Distances. LEXINGTON, Ky.f April 13. As a final preparation for his 1938 debut in Fridays Trial Handicap, Hal Price Headleys Menow, leading two-year-old of last season and one of the ranking candidates for the Kentucky Derby and Blue Grass Stakes, sped six fur-, longs in 1:14, handily, over a fast track at Keeneland this morning. J Never a horse to fully extend himself when working alone, the son of Pharamond II. greatly pleased his owner, who announced after the work that he would be under colors in the Trial Handicap. Menow was on the track at an early hour and after a warm-up gallop started his drill at the three-quarters post and reeled off the quarter in :23 and half mile in :48. Present indications point to a great band of three-year-olds being under colors for the Trial Handicap. Entries for the race closed tonight and weights and declarations will be assigned and made through the usual procedure tomorrow. BULL LEA MAY START. Another locally trained Derby and Blue Grass Stakes eligible, Bull Lea, is expected to contest the Trial, while among others expected to accept the issue are Stands Alone, Ball-O-Fire, Lassator, Congressman and Torchy. Gov. Chandler, which finished third in the Arkansas Derby; J. C. Stones Stands Alone, and P. A. and R. J. Nashs Dickerville were j qther Kentucky Derby eligibles to be seen in useful trials. Breezing for the first time since arriving from Hot Springs, Gov. Chandler ran a mile in 1:44. He was timed the quarter in :26, half mile in :50 and three-quarters in 1:17. Stands Alone, also making his first local appearance, breezed six furlongs in 1:17 and Dickerville sped three furlongs from the barrier which he covered in :36. It served as- an opener for a stiffer j drill tomorrow.
