I SEABISCUIT WORKS MILE IN i 1:39 3-5 AT SAN MATEO : 1 SAN MATEO, Calif., April 13. Bay Meadows Handicap candidates are getting in their training moves for the big 5,000 added race Saturday afternoon. Although Seabiscuit is a doubtful starter, he turned in a good trial at Tanforan Tuesday and proved himself ready. One clocker who happened to be on the job at the Marchbank track when Sear biscuit went through his paces reported that the horse went one mile handily in 1:39. His fractions were stated to be as follows: Quarter in :23Ys, half in :47 and three-quarters in 1:13. Trainer Tom Smith seems to be following his policy of working Seabiscuit when the majority of dockers are absent. Charles S. Howard, owner of Seabiscuit, left for Los Angeles Tuesday night to confer with Edmund Soule regarding the possibility of the horse starting in the Hollywood Gold Cup. Definite plans for Seabiscuit will not be made until Howards return. The owner did not wish to pick up a penalty If ho should win the Bay Meadows Handicap Saturday, therefore if he decides to send the horse after the Inglewood classic Seabiscuit will not be started in the Bay Meadows Handicap. However, it seems probable that Seabiscuit will be a starter Saturday and then be shipped cast to meet War Admiral in a match race on Decoration Day.
