I 1 j ! i I I I 1 KEENELAND TURF NOTES and s R. T. "Dick" Watts was an arrival from New Orleans, where he spent several days following the close of the Oaklawn Park meeting in Hot Springs. Watts contemplates assembling a stable for racing in Illinois during the summer. Howard Oots, Kentucky breeder and sportsman, reported the sale of the two-year-old gelding Jockeb, which was never started, to Charles Grayson. The terms of the transaction were private. Jockey Warren Cornay, whose suspension terminated with Wednesdays racing, made his return to the saddle Thursday afternoon at Keeneland, Cornay was suspended for ten days for rough riding on the eve of the close of the Tropical Park meetign. Snowbird was added to starter William Hamiltons schooling list, which comprises Battle Flag and Big Fellow. William Flanigan, former owner of Chance View, will have Detained to carry his colors during the Churchill Downs meeting. The two-year-old daughter of Neddie Captivating, which was presented to him by E. F. Woodward will be trained by Walter Burke. Judge C. J. Fitzgerald, Illinois racing commission steward, arrived from his home at Greenwich, Conn., and plans on remaining for Saturdays program. J. G. Lang, prominent Buffalo breeder, who owns Nutrush in the stable of Howard Wells, is a visitor. Henry Knight, master of Almahurst Farm, and widely known Chicago sportsman, and Mrs. Knight are at Almahurst and will remain at the farm until after the running of the Kentucky Derby. Conditions for the first seven days of the Pimlico meeting were received here Thursday. Kirby Ramsey, whose horses are quartered at Churchill Downs, was among the visitors to come from Louisville for Thursdays sport. The race for amateur riders, which was scheduled for tomorrow, was declared off when only one entry was made for it. On the reports of trainers Duval Headley and Steve Judge that they were coughing, All Spades and Superlee were excused from : fulfilling recent engagements. The division of the Oddesa Farm stable which C. Hyde Smith has here will be re- ; turned to Churchill Downs at the close of ; this meeting. Smith will select ten or twelve horses for River Downs campaigning and they will be handled by Robert Freeman. 1 Jockey Robert Dotter, who escaped with bruises when he fell from a two-year-old which he was schooling from the gate on Wednesday, decided to remain inactive on 1 Thursday, but plans to resume riding Friday, i William Stock vanned Overplay, Merry : Go Round and Cross Ruff from Churchill Downs. He has five others quartered at the i Louisville course for F.H. Carpenter. Jockey i R: Montgomery will come over to ride the 1 horses in their engagements. At the close of the Keeneland meeting 1 R. W; Collins will ship fifteen horses to j Suffolk Downs and they will remain in New 1 England throughout the summer season.
