HASTINGS VIEW luckily obtained racing room on the inside in the back stretch to reach a forward position, swung to the outside in the last five-sixteenths, caught tiring horses in the last eighth and was up in the last sixty yards. FRANK BROOKE, a strong contender and following CAN BLOOM closely, assumed a short lead in the stretch drive, but failed to withstand the winner. CAN BLOOM displayed good speed while setting the pace, saved ground and held on well while tiring. ROYAL ERROR was kept on the outside from the beginning and closed with good courage in the last half mile. BAY STOUT had no excuses. BOOK READER was messed about for the entire trip. MAEPOP broke slowly and could not menace. JANSTAR was held safe. BLAZING MEMORY quit. STAR MINT was badly ridden and was taken up repeatedly. Scratched 56510Town Car, 113. SUNEEN, avoiding crowding after the start, gained a forward position early, rallied to a hard drive in the last eighth and was up in the closing strides. CRITT, never far-from the leaders while racing on the outside, closed strongly and just failed to overhaul the winner. ORCHIDS NEXT, hustled hard from the beginning, raced into a short lead midway of the stretch and held, on well to the end. BOLD LAD was close up throughout and finished willingly while in very close quarters at the end. ANN MOWLEE also raced in close quarters most of the trip and finished determinedly. JOHNS HEIR came full of run in the closing stages. BURNER fell back after breaking forwardly, then came strongly at the end. BARKER was squeezed back soon after the start. HAPPY CODE, going in her best form, moved to the front soon after the start, raced YOMER into submission and drew clear when reaching the stretch, then increased her lead swiftly under light urging. GHOST QUEEN was sent up quickly to enter a forward position and responded to pressure, but could not menace the winner. YOMER forced a steady pace for five-eighths, then quit badly. LADY ELGIN was prominent, but failed to improve her position. AFFIRMATION could not threaten at any time. SUNTIME was never a factor. ABDICATE had no excuses. WHY TARRY was always outrun. HAVRE DE GRACE Continued from third page. TODDLE ON, following close to the leaders while racing on the outside, moved up strongly on the turn, rallied to a hard drive and was up in the concluding strides. EVENING SHADOW was rated in front, blocked ROMAN LADY on the turn out of the back stretch, came out into the middle of the track in the itretch drive and fought it out gamely. IRISH MOON circled her field and finished stoutly after losing much ground. DOROTHY ROCK failed to threaten. NANSEMOND showed speed for a half mile. ROMAN LADY broke slowly, was sent up fast between horses, was blocked when attempting to get through on the Inside of the pacemaker on the turn out of the back stretch, then saved much ground after recovering, but flattened out under punishment. AMERICAN BELLE, saved off the early pace, worked her way forward gamely when shaken up, but could not reach the winner. HIT AND RUN raced into contention on the outside and was best of the others. DONA DULCIN was prominent for the first seven-eighths, then tired. BAD DREAMS was poorly ridden from the start and was steered wide. JOLYON was done after going three-quarters. FLAGSTONE w-as permitted to settle into his best stride while trailing his field, swung around the leaders when making his move, finished determinedly in the stretch drive and was up in the last fifty yards. SUNCRAX sprinted into a long lead and saved ground all the way, but failed "to withstand the winner. WAHCOO was well up from the beginning and held on well to the end. MORRIS GRINER could not make up any ground in the final drive: LONGFUL raced strongly for seven-eighths, then tired as if short. BLACK SCOUT was done early. GREAT SHAKES was outrun.
