j RIVER DOWNS OPENING NEAR Popular Cincinnati Track Inaugurates 23 -Day Spring Meeting in Less Than Two Weeks. CINCINNATI, Ohio, April 21. With the opening of the scheduled twenty-three day spring meeting less than two weeks away, things are beginning to hum at the River Downs track, and early Thursday many horses were out for their morning spins and turned in creditable moves. Double Finesse breezed five furlongs in 1:03. Joji T., which covered herself with glory during the winter meeting at the Fair Grounds, is a candidate for the juvenile stakes at the River Downs track, and the Torriente filly appears to be one of the fleetest youngsters on the grounds. The daughter of Supremus Rose Hill is reported to be burning Up the track during the early morning work period, and Thursday morning she displayed a good three furlongs move, being clocked in :35. TRACK VERY FAST. According to horsemen now at the track, the course is lightning fast. Track superintendent J. O. Brown has done an excellent job of whipping the track into its present condition and is being complimented by the officials, as well as the horsemen, for his efforts. Old Rosebush, winner of several sprints at the Fair Grounds, was the first to be nominated for the Inaugural Handicap, the feature attraction on the opening day program Wednesday, May 4. According to word received here, several fleet sprinters will be vanned over from Keeneland to vie for the Inaugural Purse. Gene Lutz arrived from Tropical Park with eight in his string, including Temple Fall, Don Pancho, Chinese Game, Dorothy Hicks, Maple Hussy, Lester P., Gurt Palmer and Mystery Gipsy. Johnny Zoeller came in with three, namely, My Tommie, High Sheriff and Dick Greenock, while A. R. Mann checked in with fifteen, including the speedy Rebekah.
