1 CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES 1 Zevson, owned by Mrs. E. H. Bartlett of Detroit, is scheduled to make his first start since finishing second to War Admiral in the Widener Challenge Cup at Hialeah Park in the Clark Handicap here on opening day. The son of Zev has been training well since his arrival at the Downs and is expected to rule one of the choices in the Downs fixture. Zevson, which was a star at the New Orleans Fair Grounds before going to Florida for the Challenge Cup, is being trained by Joe Baumbach, who also has Thornby and Air Pocket here for the Meade Stock Farm and Leading Bet for George J. Brown. Former jockey Tommy Root has made reservations for eight horses which he is bringing here from Lexington the end of the week. All the property of C. W. Pershall, the horses are Judge Leer, Hose, Booming Guns, Joyride, Winged Victory, Thirteen Stars, Miss Lampley and Peggys Son. The veteran horseman J. W. Potter is due here in a few days from Lexington with E. N. Bissos Whipowill, while another who will begin the local season with only one horse is W. Burke, who has a juvenile filly named Detained, a black daughter of Neddie and Captivating, owned by W. F. Flanigan. Ed Haughton is coming here from Keeneland with a well balanced stable of thirteen horses which perform under the colors of Mrs. Haughton. There is only one two-year-old in the establishment, Fay D., a brown daughter of Whichone and Court Lady. The other horses, most of them well known to racegoers, are Bustle, Sadie F., Rough Diamond, Grey Simon, Glasby, Cruising, Barbara S., Drombo, Hunterdon, Down in Front, Good Soldier and Fairest Flag. Accompanying the stable will be the promising appren-I tice, Delpha Castille, whose contract Haughton purchased during the winter at New Orleans. The veteran Louisville horseman, Asa Har-ned, has two racers here for his brother, Hal Harned. They are the platers Temple Hill and Shan. Jimmy McGee registered the horses he will campaign at Churchill Downs for C. A. ONeil, Jr., of Florida. Besides the older horses Merry Pete, Flying Breeze, Night Bandit and Stealth, McGee has two juvenile colts, Lucas and Roscoe, the former by Kai Sang and the latter by Cynic. The horses are quartered at Douglas Park. Mrs. Hal Roth, local sportswoman, has turned the two-year-old filly Miss Seneca over to C. C. Norman to train. Norman also is conditioning Sam Alexander and Vellas Choice for his wife, Our Prince and Jimmie Mac for Joe Desopo, and Sailors Gift for W. F. Shoemaker. Frank Clelland is training one horse, the two-year-old Spanish Charm, for Henry C. Heeb. The youngster is a chestnut son of Spanish Play and Charlotte H. Rush McCoy arrived from Kansas City with the horses King Carl and Grit and Grace and unloaded them at Douglas Park. Another arrival at the Beechmont course was George Ury with Silvery Cloud, Waya-loft, Transfun and Easy Sailing. Eddie Legere, acting for J. Walsh, purchased the filly Red Megan, and she has been added to Legeres stable, which also includes Private Car and West Sea. Herbert M. Woolf, prominent Kansas City patron, arrives Friday and will remain until after the Derby, in which his colors will be carried by Lawrin. William H. Shelley, racing official, is here doing missionary work among the horsemen for the forthcoming meeting at Wheeling Downs. Grand Day, a three-year-old belonging to Howard Stephens of St. Louis, was a recent addition to the large stable Kirby Ramsey, local horseman, is training at the Downs.
