j RIVER DOWNS OPENING NEAR Cincinnati Track Inaugurates Meeting Wednesday Management Anticipates Best Session in Years. CINCINNATI, Ohio, April 27. With next Wednesdays opening of the River Downs spring meeting only a week off, the racing colony at that local track is increasing almost hourly. Since last Saturday a number of stables have unloaded at the riverside course and motor vans and rail transports loaded with thoroughbreds continued to arrive at frequent intervals today. With the close of the season at Keeneland on Thursday, approximately 200 additional racers will be transferred to River Downs. Arriving horsemen found an excellent track awaiting them and for the past several days much training has been noted. A number of horses slated for campaigning with the start of the meeting have turned in good trials. Meanwhile, preparations for the opening under the direction of Edward P. Strong, general manager of the River Downs Racing Association, and judge Joseph A. Murphy, who is in charge of racing, were being pushed and all will be in good order in plenty of time for the opening. The plant has been thoroughly renovated and some improvements made. With a fine array of racing talent and interest plainly evident on all sides, the management has every cause to anticipate a good meeting in every respect. The racing material is much improved over last fall and patrons may look forward to much racing of the best quality. Some of the principal stables already at the local tracks are those of James C. Ellis, George La Flesh, Blue Ridge Farm stable, Fishburn Stable, H. D. King, R. S. Byrum, Hopeful Stock Farm, Mrs. James Chesney, Eugene Lutz, H. Goldstein, Virgil Oden, William Johnson, G. E. Lewis, Marion Hurn, W. E. Ball, J. T. Clayton, H. H. Chopin, C. B. Mears, J. Winans, J. R. Carlock, T. D. Buhl, W. Truman and others. The stakes program is one which should give all of the best in the various divisions frequent chances to exhibit their ability under colors, while vieing for the larger " purses. "
