LATONIA CUP RENEWAL Oldest Fall Fixture at Covington the Feature of Closing Program. Twelve Stayers Named for Gruelling Journey of Two and One -Quarter Miles Sun Helps Footing. LATONIA, Ky.f Oct. 7 The Latonia Cup Handicap, oldest of the fall fixtures at this picturesque valley course, will be renewed for the twenty-third time as the feature of the closing days program tomorrow. Rich in tradition and one of the most popular of the stakes to be offered at the semi-annual j meetings, this years revival promises to be as interesting as any in late years. Even Old Sol broke through the haze this morning to aid in whipping the track into its best condition for the gruelling journey of two and one-quarter miles. Although not as rich in monetary value as many of its predecessors, twelve stayers, representing eleven different interests, were entered for the ,000 prize and the 50 additional to be apportioned to the trainers of the first four horses. BEST PROGRAM. Probably the best program of the fall meeting has been arranged for the finale and although the season, hampered by bad weather and counter attractions of the Cincinnati baseball club in the early stages of the meeting, will be a loser, Col. Matt J. Winn,, executive directors, and his associates are pleased. Double R., hard-running son of Rolled Stockings, which made his local bow at distance racing last week and one of the best stayers of mid-western racing, will carry the top impost of 116 pounds. He has been triumphing regularly at distances from one and one-half to two miles since springtime, and his handy victory here at one and one-half miles probably will cause him to be installed the favorite. However, the Jake Angner colorbearer will meet stronger competition in tomorrows race. Little Nymph, a consistent daughter of Bull Dog, was a good second to Tunica in the Twin City Handicap, at one and three-sixteenths miles, Saturday. Her impost is 113 pounds, which, considering her sex, equally weights her with Double R. From Chicago, Continued on thirty-second page. LATONIA CD? RENEWAL Continued from first page. Malicious was sent for the race and should he show the brilliant form that made him so popular with Santa Anita fans last winter he will make the contest very interesting. GRILLS MOUNT. The eleven-year-old son of Omar Khayyam gets in under 107 pounds and will have the services of Frank Grill. This is the same impost as. that assigned Edwin Thomas Star Banner. Glasby, coupled with Butter Beans as the Mrs. Edward Haughton entry, showed his prowess at route racing at River Downs last fall. Glasbys assignment is 108 pounds and Butter Beans 105. Jeffersontown, an improving three-year-old, will tote 105 pounds and Son Richard and Russia will carry 102 pounds each. Kievs Pennant, under 100 pounds; Rhimeda, under ninety-seven, and Flying Jay, under ninety-six pounds, complete the field. The secondary number is the Au Revoir Handicap, a dash over six furlongs. Five of the eight races are at distances of one mile and seventy yards or greater and a substitute race has been carded to be used if any of the original numbers are declared off tomorrow.
