SPORTSMANS OFFICIALS READY Majority Present and Eeady to Begin Operating Starter G. Palmer Expected Hourly. CICERO, 111., Oct. 7. With the lone exception of starter George Palmer, who. is expected-here momentarily, all of the racing officials who will serve at -Sportsmans Park are on hand for the opening of the nineteen-day season at the local half-mile course Monday. The latest arrival among the officials is J. J. Graddy, who got in today from his home in Lexington., Graddy will serve as steward, along with R. S. Shelley and C. J. FitzGerald, Sr., the latter representing the Illinois Racing Commission. Shelley, who also is general manager and racing secretary, said today the work of registering and stabling horses is virtually complete and that his department is ready to function at a moments notice. He reports a lively interest in the meeting among horse-ment and he ventured the opinion that Sportsmans Park would have more better grade thoroughbreds than in several years. To cater to horses of this qualitv he has arranged a number of features which should do much to hold the attention of fans. The totalizator will be introduced to Sportsmans Park patrons this fall for the first time, while the Harvey camera will be in operation to help the judges in deciding close finishes. Both of those devices have been installed and arc ready for use.
