DOROTHY POMP, beginning swiftly and going into the lead immediately, met strong contention from PROSIT in the first half mile, responded gamely when shaken up entering the stretch and barely lasted long enough to withstand BARKER. The latter worked his way up between horses to reach a forward position, then closed gamely approaching the finish. SHORT CAKE was stoutly ridden to hold a prominent position and finished with good energy under punishment. BUDS KING circled his field and finished strongly. PRINCESS VERTE raced evenly while going wide. GOLD LASS was a strong factor for five-eighths, then tired. DICK ULMER tired after going a half mile. PROSIT had no excuses. The others were outrun. THE HOUR moved to the front soon after the start, struck several of his fences while being steadied for the first mile, responded strongly when shaken up and came out gradually nearing the close. MILLRACE was a strong contender all during the running and made several strong bids, but tired in the final test. GAME RUNNER was shuffled back coming to the eighth fence, then moved up stoutly when clear, but could not better his position in the late stages. COXSWAIN raced wide on the turns and failed to reach the leaders while racing wide. BUCK LANGHORNE made a bad landing at the fourth jump and was unable to threaten thereafter. ATOPHAN raced stronglv for the first mile, then tired after striking some of his fences. WHADDON CHASE tired early. CAUGHT fell at the fourth jump. ASKARIS, lacking early speed, improved her position while racing wide and finished with a belated rush. ELLABEE worked her way forward between horses and came determinedly under punishment in the final issue. RUNNING SCALE weaved between horses to reach a forward position, engaged the leaders, but tired right at the end. TUTTICURIO moved up stoutly on the inside rounding the turn, saved ground entering the stretch and fought it out strongly. TONIANNA showed a good effort. GOLDEN SILENCE was a stout factor for a half mile, then tired. QUE GATO forced a fast early pace, but tired when reaching the stretch. BREAD KING and SALLY QUICK quit. SHALAKO broke slowly. WAKA was placed on the outside for the start, broke swiftly to take command early, saved ground and held on tenaciously when challenged. MICRO raced well placed, moved up stoutly rounding the final turn, slipped through on the inside and finished gamely. PRINCIPESSA secured racing room on the inside at the first turn to reach contention. ZINNIA was used up racing with WAKA and tired. CANGRIERRON closed a big gap. FLYING FEET tired. SETEMUP had early speed. ROCKY ROAD ran away two miles the wrong way of the track before the start. CHALPHONE, steadied off the early pace, finished with good energy in the late stages. PROPH was not good enough after moving up strongly at the five-sixteenths post. KERMAY was rated early, drove through on the inside of GENIE PALATINE nearing the final turn, but failed to stay. GENIE PALATINE tired after three-quarters. GIANT KILLER was never a factor.
