GRUNDY, hard ridden after the break to gain a short lead, stalled off early contention from DEFLATE, responded courageously for the stretch drive and barely lasted long enough to withstand LADY ORCHID. The latter was close up from the beginning and finished with good energy in the final issue. LONG FACE, outrun early, closed with a belated rush. DEFLATE was under strong pressure from the start, but failed to stay. FREDRICK raced well placed and had no mishaps. FLY ME could not keep up. DARK FRIEND was outrun after broakine slowlv. DRESSY, hustled into the lead, stalled off NIGHT INTRUDER in the first half mile, rallied strongly in the stretch drive and barely lasted long enough to withstand CARVOLA. The latter, sluggish after the start, raced to her field with a rush rounding the turn, was carried wide entering the stretch when nearing the winner and held on determinedly to the end. YOUR BUDDY was strongly handled and finished with good courage. A claim of foul against CARVOLA was disallowed. NIGHT INTRUDER saved ground to be in the thick of contention, but faltered in the last quarter mile. C-NOTE raced close up until reaching the stretch, then tired. UP THE CREEK was a stout factor in the early stages while racing in tight quarters, moved up stoutly to engage the pacemaker entering the stretch, responded, to punishment and was up in the concluding strides. PADDY showed much speed while setting the pace, shook off SOLVIT, saved ground and fought it out stubbornly when caught. BALMY SPRING was rushed vigorously on the inside to gain a forward position, was placed to punishment on the stretch turn and finished willingly. EXPLODED, lacking early speed, came with a rush in the late stages. CHIEF ONAWAY displayed a high flight of speed rounding the turn, then tired. GRIDIRON, squeezed back early, finished gamely when clear. DRAWOUT raced evenly. SOLVIT tired early. RIB ROAST was outrun. OAK APPLE was done early. Overweight Chief Onaway, 5 pounds. MARKME was kept within striking distance of the leaders for three-quarters, moved forward stoutly in the last five-sixteenths, wore down ICY WIND entering the stretch and had enough in reserve to withstand GRAVILLA. The latter, pinched back going to the first turn, improved her position when clear and finished with good energy. DOPLAY was stoutly ridden to keep up with ICY WIND, gained a brief lead midway of the final turn, then faltered from her early efforts. TEDDYS STAR was knocked off stride on the First turn, recovered, but failed to stay. ICY WIND could not get clear and tired. JUNGO vas never a threat. Scratched 672483Cornwallis, 107. JOHNSTOWN, forcing a swift pace while in close attendance of REDLIN, assumed command midway of the turn, opened up a long lead midway of the stretch, but had to be shaken up vigorously nearing the -end to withstand IMPOUND. The latter, under strong urging from the start, gained fast in the last three-sixteenths and was wearing the winner down with every stride approaching the finish. TIME ALONE raced close up from the beginning, saved much ground on the stretch turn and held on willingly to the close. YALE O NINE broke well, but would not extend himself in the early running, his rider shifted his whip to his left hand and the gelding closed full of run on the outside. SWEET NANCY was forced to race on the outside throughout. SEARCH was in between horses and could not threaten. REDLIN was done after going three-eighths. HYPOCRITE, rated close to TEMPESTUOUS, raced into the lead without effort, saved ground, but could not stave off the winner. MR. CANRON was a stout factor from the start and held on stoutly after making a stout bid at ths final turn. BOOTLESS was steadied back of the leaders, saved ground, but could not menace. INVERMARK, saved off the early pace, raced into contention with a rush, secured racing room on the inside of LIGHT CHATTER to take the lead on the final turn, then drew out steadily in the stretch. BLACK GROUSE was a strong contender from the start and continued gamely in the final drive. LIGHT CHATTER was under steadying restraint while setting the pace under sufferance and flattened out when challenged. MARDROMEL was unable to threaten the leaders at any time. BABY TALK was always held safe. PLAYING DAN tired after going three-quarters. CHILLY EBBIE had no excuses. SOME BOY tfroke very slowly. Scratched 67158 American Belle, 106.
