HANDICAP FINISH A THRILLER Bobs Boys Gets Decision Over Sun Power at Toronto. Winner Establishes New Track Record for One and One-Eighth Miles at long Branch. TORONTO, Ont, Oct. 8 Bobs Boys, five-yeai-old In Mcmoriam and Marsh Fire gelding, racing for the Cosgrave Stable, drove to a thrilling score in the running of the Golden Virginia Handicap, Saturday feature of the Long Branch meeting. Ridden by jockey M. Calvert, he held a length advantage before H. R. Bains Sun Power, and established a new track record for the mile and one furlong. Bomber, from the G. H. Ellis stable, was in third place, a half length, and two and one-half in advance of C. Smythes Shoeless Joe. G. M. Hendries Poona and P. P. Montagues Hainault Maid completed the field. In racing the nine furlongs in 1:51, Bobs Boys clipped one-fifth of a second from the track record established Oct. 12, 1934, by Brandon Prince. A crowd of 12,000 was on hand for the fourth days sport. Heavy skies hung over the course for the early races, but cleared before the running of the feature. Rex Frost, radio commentator, presented J. Cosgrave of the Cosgrave Stable with a silver cup following the running of the event. NO POST DELAY. There -was little delay at the start and starter Clark had the field away in good order. Bomber was the first to show in the lead from the stalls, followed by Shoeless Joe and Bobs Boys. In the drive for positions to the first turn, Calvert sent Bobs Boys forward on the inside to the lead. As they made the turn into the back stretch Bobs Boys and Bomber raced side by side, with the former a head in advance. Shoeless Joe raced on the outside, a length and a half back and a head in front of Sun Power, which had saved ground. In the back stretch Bobs Boys held the lead and at the half mile ground was a length in the lead, while Bomber was a length before Sun Power and Shoeless Joe. When they came to the stretch Bobs Boys took a lengthy lead, while Sun Power moved up on the inside and headed Bomber momentarily. At the furlong post Bobs Boys came off the rail and Bomber moved to a head of him on the outside, while Sun Power moved up on the inside at the same time. Calvert placed the In Memoriam gelding under stout pressuie and he came away in the drive to the end. Sun Power closed gamely on the inside to outfinish Bomber, which began to falter in the final strides.
