CALL "MATCH" RACE SPECIAL Wa$ Admiral-Seabiscuit Contest at Pimlico One Step Nearer. Will Use Same Designation for Race as That Used When War Admiral Appeared in 1937. BALTIMORE, Md., Oct. 8. With the official stamp of approval of the Maryland Racing Commission, the War Admiral-Sea-biscuit race at Pimlico on November 1 moves one step nearer reality. The announcement was made by A. G. Vanderbilt after con-; f erring with Jervis Spencer, Jr., chairman of the commission. In his announcement Vanderbilt also stated that the race would be called the Pimlico Special, a renewal of the specially programmed event for War Admiral and other prominent three-year-olds at Pimlico last autumn. The Maryland Jockey Club with its annual autumn meeting occurring in early November after most of the major eastern tracks have closed for the year, is in a par- j ticularly favorable position for scheduling wnat might be termed the "dream race" of each year. The stake-a-day plan at Pimlico , each autumn also contributes to the likeli-l hood of the success of an annual Pimlico Special, as most of the best horses in training and division champions are on the grounds at that time. PERMANENT FIXTURE. The latter part of each racing year usually sees a situation similar to the current War Admiral-Seabiscuit controversy with owners and trainers of the horses involved either reluctant or blocked from participating in a race which would settle the issue. I The decision of the Pimlico officials to place the Pimlico Special on its books as a permanent feature of each autumn meeting is not only a creditable innovation, but also , assures the racing public of one co-operative agency between public and horsemen where ! questions of thoroughbred supremacy can be answered. The race, therefore, will not have any fixed conditions, instead they will be written to suit the horses and in agreement with the owners and trainers. i
