I BAY MEADOWS TURF NOTES f W. H. Hoffman, owner of the R. C. Stable, was an arrival to look over his stock now racing at Bay Meadows and will confer with trainer Meredith on the number of horses to be shipped to Tanforan and those to be sent south. Norman Stevens has taken over the four-year-old Tellwick to train for D. Y. Elander. Stevens, a former jockey also conditions the horses of Mike Syufy. Ruth Partonr only woman trainer at Bay Meadows, has been engaged to condition the horses of Shirley Parker, wealthy Yakima, Wash., sportsman. In the Parker string are Lame Duck, Wise Beauty, Als Pride and others. Bert Bagley, Vancouver, Wash, owner, has purchased Star Stopper, Carezza and Ming China from the Hawthorne Stable. The Chilean mare Sumatra HI. has started training again following a "brief rest. She will be named for several Tanforan stakes. During the first three days of this week, Warren Van Tassel, clever apprentice under contract to Roy Selden, accepted seventeen mounts and was in the money twelve times. Going into Fridays racing, Van Tassel was but one winning mount behind J. Adams, the Bay Meadows leader. Incidentally, Adams is in third place on the American jockey list, being topped only by Johnny Longden and Sammy Williams. Edward J. Brown, member of the Washington State Racing Commission, and president of the National Association of Racing Conimissioners, is visiting at Bay Meadows. Word was received here that Silvio Coucci is returning to the Coast and will be seen in action at Tanforan. Coucci was one of the leading riders on Western tracks during- the summer months. Edward Dobkin, popular Chicago commissioner, and Mrs. Dobkin are visiting in Los Angeles. They plan to attend the races at Tanforan next week. Mr. Dobkin long has been identified with racing, having at one time owned an extensive stable of thoroughbred racers.
